| Evaluation of Turkish Airlines’ Performance by Years with the CRITICBased MABAC Method | Author : Murat Kemal KELES | Abstract | Full Text | Abstract :Air transportation has been increasingly preferred by passengers in recent years due to its advantages such as speed, time and cost. This situation makes it necessary for airline companies to increase the quality of service they provide to customers, develop strategies for competition and show a good performance in the airline industry where competition is intense. In this study, half decade performance of Turkish Airlines between the years 2016 and 2020 is evaluated. In this context, the criteria of “net profit/loss for the period”, “number of aircrafts”, “load factor”, “number of employees”, “number of passengers carried” and “available seat kilometer” were taken into account. In the study, Turkish Airlines performance over the years was evaluated with the CRITIC and MABAC methods, which are recently developed multi-criteria decision-making methods. While the CRITIC method has been used to evaluate the weights of the evaluation criteria, the MABAC method was used to evaluate the performance of Turkish Airlines based on the years. According to the results of the analysis, it was concluded that the criterion with the greatest weight on Turkish Airlines performance was the “number of aircraft”, while the criterion with the lowest degree of importance was the “net profit/loss for the period”. In the ranking made by the MABAC method, while the best performance of Turkish Airlines was in 2019, 2016 was determined as the year with the lowest performance. |
| Determination of Important Variables in Food Security Classification Using Random Forest | Author : Özlem ESTÜRK | Abstract | Full Text | Abstract :Seasonal agricultural workers are the most disadvantaged group of work forces in terms of poverty even though they are significant contributors to the agricultural economy in Turkey. The objectives of this study were to determine the food security status of seasonal agricultural workers and to determine the most important variables in the classification of household food security status for the seasonal agriculture workers. Responses of seasonal apricot workers in Malatya to 18 questions of the Household Food Security Survey Module (HFSSM) were analyzed using the Random Forests (RF) algorithm (n = 65). Results indicated that 55.4% of households suffered from food insecurity, where 7.7% of them with moderate hunger and 13.8% of them with severe hunger. The area under curve value of the RF model was estimated at 0.846 as the classification accuracy. The question “running out of food before having money to buy more” was the most important variable in the classification of the food security groups. Seasonal agricultural workers are prone to food insecurity and poverty due to low income and job insecurity in Turkey and in the world. Therefore, it is important to implement social aid programs to solve food insecurity issue in risk groups like seasonal agricultural workers. |

| Price Bubbles in Cryptocurrency Market and Effects of Investor Attention | Author : Gamze GÖÇMEN YAGCILAR | Abstract | Full Text | Abstract :Cryptocurrencies, which do not have a certain intrinsic value and whose price cannot be predicted with economic fundamentals, are open to speculation and the view that their prices are driven by a number of behavioral factors is becoming increasingly common. It is thought that these features trigger bubble formations as well as high volatility and uncertainty in the market. To test this assumption, the GSADF approach introduced by Phillips, Shi and Yu (2015) was applied using the weekly data set for the period 07.08.2015-30.01.2022 for six cryptocurrencies. In the examined period, bubble formations were detected in all six cryptocurrencies. The findings obtained by logistic regression analysis showed that Google Trends search queries, which are used as the representative of investor attractiveness, are effective in the formation of these bubbles. It is thought that the obtained results will be beneficial for investors, portfolio managers and regulatory authorities. |

Hospital-based cross-sectional study design was used in the study. The research population consisted of the nurse employees of six public hospitals with at least 1500 beds operating in different regions of Istanbul. Using the online questionnaire technique, data were collected from 450 nurses who worked in the COVID-19 pandemic outpatient clinic. IBM SPSS 23 and AMOS package programs were used in the analysis of the data. It was determined that the fear (mean:2.32), depression (mean:2.56), and anxiety (mean:2.32) levels of the nurses working in the pandemic outpatient clinics were partially lower than in the previous periods of the epidemic. Structural equation analysis revealed that the positive relationship between fear, depression and anxiety related to the COVID-19 epidemic had a high and acceptable fit index. In the late period of the COVID-19 epidemic, the fear, depression and anxiety levels of nurses working in pandemic outpatient clinics have partially decreased. There are reciprocal and strong positive relationships between the levels of fear, depression and anxiety caused by COVID-19. |

| How Does The Pandemic Affect Older Adults Mental Health? | Author : Özge KUTLU DÖNMEZ, Deniz SAY SAHIN | Abstract | Full Text | Abstract :The COVID-19 is a global pandemic declared as a result of the spread of a novel coronavirus having emerged in Wuhan, China in December 2019. While the restrictive and protective measures have helped minimize the adverse effects of the pandemic threatening the physical health of societies, they have brought destructive impacts on mental health. Undoubtedly, every segment of the society has been affected by the pandemic, and the elderly, who are in the high-risk group, are the most vulnerable group against the virus due to the epidemiology of the virus and the characteristics of their life-period. Understanding their loneliness, anxiety of being sick, and fear of death, introduced by social isolation measures, and producing policies strengthening their mental health are as important and vital as protecting their physical health. This study aimed to examine the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on older adult mental health in the light of the relevant literature and current data and offer viable, community-based social work intervention recommendations by evaluating these effects from a social work perspective. |
| Economic Development and Woman: The Case of Turkey | Author : Ayten Nahide KORKMAZ, Serdar BUDAK | Abstract | Full Text | Abstract :Since the birth of history, men and women have been fighting for existence together as two separate sexes. What the positions of men and women in life are is one of the topics discussed since the beginning of humanity. Traditional perception and perception of gender differences in societies have reconciled the man with the outside of the house and the woman with the inside of the house. The profession and professional obligations, which are emphasized with their in-house responsibilities as the primary task of women in all walks of life and status, are put into the secondary plan. These ideas cause women to work in unqualified jobs and in low conditions in the economy. It is thought that the economic development of a country will allow women to work in the same position and conditions as men. The active role of women, who make up almost half of Turkeys population, especially in the economy, is the engine of growth and development. In this study, the place of womens labor in economic development in Turkey will be discussed.
